Cooking Shoes

The most common and most dangerous accident in all commercial kitchens is the slip-and-fall. The best way to avoid a student falling in the kitchen is for each teenager to wear grease-resistant, slip-resistant cooking shoes at all times.

ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR GREASE-RESISTANT, SLIP RESISTANT COOKING SHOES WHENEVER THEY ARE IN THE WEKIVA CULINARY FACILITY: WHEN COOKING, WHEN SERVING, IN COMPETITION, DURING SPECIAL EVENTS, OR WHEN CATERING. THERE ARE ZERO EXCEPTIONS.

Purchasing appropriate shoes is the responsibility of the student’s family. The following suggestions will be helpful:

  • Walmart sells inexpensive “grease-resistant, slip resistant” shoes as part of their TreadSafe line of footwear. The rubberized clogs (pictured below) are the safest choice and can be purchased in person at Walmart or online.
  • Wekiva Culinary HIGHLY recommends the slightly more expensive Crocs Men’s and Women’s Bistro Clog  These kitchen shoes are very comfortable and sturdy enough for regular wear. Crocs Cooking Shoes can be purchased at multiple online stores and come in a wide variety of graphic designs.
  • In addition to Crocs and the Walmart brand, many other great options are available online including ShoesForCrews, Stico, Sensfoot, and Sketchers. Any of these cooking clogs are a great option.
  • Make absolutely sure, regardless of which product you choose for your student, that the shoes are clearly labeled as “grease-resistant, slip resistant.”
  • Any student found without the proper footwear will be asked to leave the facility immediately, both for their safety and the safety of others.
  • Wekiva Culinary takes no responsibility for accidents arising out of improper footwear.
