Welcome to the Magnet Academy of Culinary Arts at Wekiva High School!

Whether you’re a senior returning for your fourth year with us (that’s right, we’re talking about you, amazing seniors!), a new Culinary Arts 1 student about to walk into the kitchen for the first time, or a prospective student and family exploring whether this program is the right fit — we’re incredibly glad you’re here.

Taking a Culinary Arts class here is different from almost every other course on campus. Our students DO more, get INVOLVED in more real projects, take more FIELD TRIPS, and enter more COMPETITIONS than in any other program at Wekiva. Parents: this also means a level of commitment and communication most electives don’t ask for — the resources below will help you understand exactly what that looks like before the first day of school.

Here’s a friendly suggestion: go over the orientation materials early. Don’t wait until the last minute.

There are 5 pages under the New and Returning Culinary Student Orientation heading you should take a careful look at:

  1. Welcome Letter
  2. Syllabus, Course Guide, and Safety Contract
  3. Equipment & Supply Fee
  4. Uniform Contract and Student Supply List
  5. FAQs for Culinary Students: Frequently Asked Questions

We’ll walk through all of this during the first week of school, but you’ll be ahead of the game if you’re already familiar with what’s changed from last year.

Again — I’m really glad to welcome you back to our Magnet program, or welcome you to it for the very first time!

I’ll see you in the kitchen,
Chef Bates
