Why take Professional certification exams while in high school?

Parents and Guardians often ask why their student should spend time preparing for certification exams. What if Culinary is not the student’s preferred future field? What if the certifications do not directly relate to their chosen college or university? Aside from the fact that passing all three certification exams qualifies students for numerous scholarships, there are many other reasons students should consider studying with us at Wekiva Culinary.

Freshmen Year: Certified Food Safety Manager Certification Exam

Certified Food Safety Manager National Registry of Food Safety Professionals – CAPE Industry Certification (FDOE NRFSP001).

The Certified Food Safety Manager certification measures knowledge and
skills in food safety standards to demonstrate knowledge and skills meet
measurable and specified food safety standards adopted by the Conference
for Food Protection to protect the public from food-borne illnesses.

Sophomore Year: Food Protection Manager (ServSafe®) Certification Exam

Certified Food Protection Manager (ServSafe®) National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation – CAPE Industry Certification (FDOE NRAEF003)

The Certified Food Protection Manager (ServSafe®) certification measures knowledge and skills in FDA Food Code, food safety research and food sanitation training.

Junior and Senior Year: ProStart National Certificate of Achievement Exam Parts 1 & 2

National ProStart Certificate of Achievement National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation –CAPE Industry Certification (FDOE NRAEF002)

The ProStart National Certificate of Achievement (COA) measures knowledge and skills for numerous restaurant, foodservice and hospitality professions through in-depth course of study as well as on-the job experience. 2 exams required. Individuals must complete year one and two of the industry-based ProStart sponsored culinary curriculum. 400 hours of work experience are required.
